Throttle Response - How to improve it

Other enthusiasts I've encountered are always talking about improving Throttle Response. There are several ways to accomplish this. Some work and some don't. Much of the hype behind thottle response is unsubstantiated. But after reading several articles and dyno tests, I've decided to try one of these improvements out.
This has to do with lightening the flywheel. I won't go into the physics argument but there are dyno tests to prove this that a lighter flywheel does improve the throttle characteristics of a motor in real life situations. Some have even measured an increase in horsepower at certain rpms which are measureable on a dynomometer.
Typically, when replacing a clutch, the flywheel is resurfaced. Rather than have my existing flywheel machined, I thought this might be a good opportunity to try this highly praised modification myself. Most took their existing flywheel to a machine shop and had the extra mass removed. I opted instead to purchase the beautiful stainless steel version from Autotech. It is an 11lb piece of art. It's too bad no one ever sees this piece once it is installed so I decided to photograph it before installing it. (None of my corrado companions would believe me otherwise!)
Compared to the original, one can see right away that it does not carry the same mass as the original flywheel. One of the reasons the OEM flywheel is so heavy is that it also functions as a counterbalance. The heavy mass while rotating acts to offset any engine rotational vibration. The inertia created by the spinning 22lb flywheel will effectively absorb any engine idle roughness. Adding this lightweight flywheel may negatively affect idle smoothness in the end but its worth a try. It does weigh roughly half of the weight of the OEM flywheel.
One very notable enhancement--the last two oil pan bolts are unreachable using the OEM flywheel. To remove the oilpan while the engine and transmission are assembled if not impossible but very close. It is a source of frustration for many G60 owners.

The Autotech flywheel eliminates this issue. There is a direct path for a socket and extension to reach those last two oilpan bolts! That alone is worth the expense.
